      Exclusive Paint Protection installs XPEL PRIME ceramic window tint at our Charlotte studio, Suite 32 at 4913 Chastain Ave. We’re an Authorized XPEL Dealer with more than 20 years in the business and nearly 2,000 vehicles protected, and our own installers do every job. If you’re shopping for tint, these are the questions we’d ask any shop in Charlotte before booking, along with how we answer them.

      Why ask questions before you book tint?

      Two tint quotes can look alike on paper and very different on the car. A well-installed film looks like it came from the factory, with no visible dust or debris under it, no bubbles or creases once it has cured, and clean edges all the way around. The film determines how much heat stays out. The warranty determines who helps you years from now. A shop that answers these questions clearly up front is usually one that stands behind its work.

      What film do you install, and is it ceramic?

      Ask for the brand and the product line. “Ceramic” on its own doesn’t tell you much, because quality varies widely.

      We install XPEL PRIME ceramic films only:

      • XPEL PRIME XR, a nano-ceramic film with strong heat rejection and a clean, factory look.
      • XPEL PRIME XR PLUS, XPEL’s highest-performance ceramic film and the one we recommend most for Charlotte summers, especially on larger glass.

      Both are ceramic rather than metallic, so they won’t interfere with GPS, Bluetooth, your phone or the car’s cameras and sensors. XPEL rates PRIME films to block up to 99% of UV rays.

      You can check all of this yourself. A film manufacturer’s website lists the specs for each film, and its dealer locator shows which shops are authorized to install it. For XPEL, both are on xpel.com, and you’ll find both EPP studios listed there.

      Does a darker tint keep the car cooler?

      Not by itself. How dark a film is (its VLT, or visible light transmission) affects privacy and appearance. Heat rejection comes from the film’s technology. A legal shade of XPEL PRIME XR PLUS can keep a cabin cooler than a darker, lower-grade film.

      If you want a cooler car without going darker than the law allows, the answer is a better film, not a darker one.

      Is the shade I want legal in North Carolina?

      Since December 1, 2025, North Carolina no longer checks window tint during the annual safety inspection, but the law itself hasn’t changed. Front side windows still need to let through at least 35% of visible light, and an officer can still measure your tint at a traffic stop. What’s allowed behind the driver can depend on how your vehicle is classified, so we check that before recommending a shade.

      This is general information, not legal advice.

      What does window tint not do?

      Ceramic tint is about heat, glare and UV, not impact. Window tint always goes on the inside of the glass, which many customers don’t know. It won’t stop rock chips, and that includes windshield tint, which is there to cut heat and UV.

      If chips and cracks on the windshield are the worry, ask us about XPEL windshield protection film. It’s a separate clear film applied to the outside of the glass, and we install it at both our Charlotte and Huntersville studios. For paint, the equivalent is paint protection film.

      Who installs the film, and where?

      Ask whether the installers work for the shop or are subcontracted. At our Charlotte studio, every tint job is done indoors by EPP’s own installers. We don’t subcontract. Most cars are finished the same day, in 4 to 6 hours, and we recommend dropping the car off.

      What’s the warranty, and who stands behind it?

      Ask whether the warranty comes from the film maker or only from the shop, and how you’ll receive it. A paper warranty card handed over at pickup doesn’t always get registered with the manufacturer, and if it never reaches them, you may not find out until you need to make a claim. XPEL now issues its warranties digitally. We register your film with XPEL, and XPEL emails the warranty to you directly, so the manufacturer has your install on record from the start.

      XPEL PRIME films carry XPEL’s limited warranty for the life of your vehicle. It’s honored nationwide, and it’s transferable. Coverage starts on the install date and includes discoloration, fading, bubbling, peeling, cracking and delamination, with parts and labor covered by XPEL. It does require professional installation. Because the warranty comes from XPEL and not just from us, it stays with you if you move. If you sell the car, the remaining coverage passes to the new owner with proof of the original install date.

      A manufacturer’s warranty covers defects in the film itself. In our experience, most problems customers run into, such as peeling edges, trapped debris or bubbles that never clear, come from the installation, not the material. The installer matters as much as the film.

      No install is perfect under a microscope; that would take a clean room. We hold every job to the International Window Film Association’s Automotive Visual Inspection Guideline for Applied Window Film and to what our clients expect. If a window doesn’t meet that standard, we remove the film and reapply it, often before you pick up the car.

      Do you tint Teslas, and are you part of Tesla’s tint program?

      Yes. Both EPP studios, Charlotte and Huntersville, are participating installers in Tesla’s at-purchase XPEL tint program, so you can add XPEL tint when you order your car and have us install it. We’ve already tinted Tesla’s new Model Y L at both studios. The one pictured here was done in Charlotte.

      On a Model S, the side and rear glass are tinted as a set. The sedan has no factory rear privacy glass, so there’s no front-only package like there is for the Model X and Model Y. On a few models with very large rear glass, most often the Model 3, we can tint the rear window in one piece with no seam. Our Tesla window tinting page covers each model.

      How do you decide which shop to book?

      Book the shop that:

      1. names the exact film line, not just “ceramic,” and is listed as an authorized installer on the film maker’s website;
      2. explains that heat rejection comes from the film, not the darkness;
      3. checks what’s legal on your vehicle before cutting film;
      4. uses its own installers, indoors;
      5. offers a manufacturer’s warranty, not only its own.

      FAQ

      What’s the best ceramic window tint for Charlotte heat?
      We recommend XPEL PRIME XR PLUS most often. It’s XPEL’s highest-performance ceramic film. PRIME XR is also a strong choice. Both are covered on our window tinting page.

      How long does window tint take at your Charlotte studio?
      Most cars are done the same day, in 4 to 6 hours. We recommend dropping the car off.

      Will ceramic tint affect my phone or GPS?
      No. XPEL PRIME films are ceramic, not metallic, so they don’t interfere with your phone, GPS, Bluetooth or vehicle sensors.

      Is the warranty from EPP or from XPEL?
      From XPEL. PRIME films carry XPEL’s limited warranty for the life of your vehicle, honored nationwide and transferable. It covers defects such as fading, bubbling, peeling and cracking, and we install the film the way XPEL requires for that coverage.
