Does Ceramic Tint Improve Tesla Range?
It can help, but the effect is usually modest and depends on how and where you drive.
In a Tesla, the climate system runs on the same battery that powers the car. When the cabin heats up, the vehicle uses battery energy to cool it back down, and in hot weather that energy use adds up.

North Carolina Tesla Tint Laws
What changed in 2025 — and what didn’t
As of December 1, 2025, North Carolina no longer measures window tint as part of the annual vehicle safety inspection, and the $10 tint inspection fee is gone. A lot of Tesla owners have taken that to mean the tint limits went away too. They didn’t.
The law itself is unchanged. The 35% VLT limit is still on the books, and an officer can still measure your glass at a traffic stop, write a citation, and order the film removed. Only the annual check disappeared — not the rule behind it.
What still applies:
• 35% minimum VLT on front side windows, on every vehicle
• 35% minimum VLT on rear side windows and back glass for vehicles titled as passenger cars, which covers Model 3 and Model S
• Windows behind the driver are exempt on vehicles titled as multipurpose vehicles, which can include Model X, Model Y and Model YL — we confirm your classification before we cut
• Windshield tint allowed only above the AS-1 line
• Clear, UV-reducing film allowed on the full windshield
• Medical exemptions still available through the NCDMV Drivers Medical Evaluation Program
• Drivers must roll tinted windows down when an officer approaches, also effective December 1, 2025
